The buying power and the number of customers at Co.op Mart tripled during the vietnamese new year holiday

On the morning of February 21st, 2018 or January 06th, 2018 lunar calendar, the Saigon Union of Trading Co-operatives (Saigon Co.op) briefly reported the business situation during the Vietnamese New Year holiday to the delegation of the City Party Committee – the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City led by Mr Tran Vinh Tuyen, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee

According to Mr Nguyen Anh Duc, Permanent Deputy General Director of Saigon Co.op, the Saigon Co.op retail chain observed a three-fold increase in both sales and the number of customers during the Lunar New Year holiday, up nearly 10% over the same period last year whilst meeting the domestic consumers’ shopping needs.

It was recognized that on this occasion, no queue disorder or congestion at the cashier counters happened at the Saigon Co.op retail chain, including Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.op Food, etc. despite a large number of customers being attended to.

From the 2nd to the 6th of January, lunar calendar, the sales of Co.opmart, Co.op Food and Co.opXtra supermarkets, on average, rose by 11%. Significantly, an increase by 15% to 25% for fresh food also indicates that the retail market for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs) has been bustling to welcome large numbers of workers to return to work.

At the event, Mr Tran Vinh Tuyen, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciated the efforts on the part of the Saigon Co.op management and staff in thoughtfully preparing the goods, human resources and materials to constantly serve consumers before and after the Vietnamese New Year holiday in the quality-focused direction. He especially commended Saigon Co.op for its care for its employees’ lives and its social work.

Particularly, in parallel with ensuring the stabilized price of goods and bringing Vietnamese goods to the countryside, Saigon Co.op also gave more than 10,000 Vietnamese New Year gifts to difficult families under the preferential treatment policy. These included nearly 4,000 gifts to poor households through the campaign of the Fatherland Front Committees of districts, more than 4,500 gifts to poor households in the localities where Co.opmart and other Saigon Co.op units operate and over 1,700 gifts to poor households and workers in difficult circumstances at the points of sale.

Further to embarking upon business, serving customers’ needs, stabilizing market prices and conducting community activities, Saigon Co.op also attaches great weight to both material and spiritual life of its staff who have been devoted to and doing their best to reach the common goal of the whole system.

This year, all-level Saigon Co.op Trade Unions continued to offer incentives to all union members with a total of nearly VND 6 billion spent on visiting, encouraging and supporting hundreds of union members in particularly difficult circumstances at the support level of between VND 1 million and VND 5 million each.

Immediately following the Vietnamese New Year holiday, Saigon Co.op’s retail system further offers customers promotions and entertainment services such as “getting lucky at the beginning of the year”, “God of wealth knocks the door, then wealth comes all year”, the celebration of “the Vietnamese Doctors’ Day” and so on to attract more nationwide customers to start a vibrant year of the Vietnamese retail market.
