Architect salvador perez arroyo: Passion creates the masterpiece

At the rare age of over 70, Architect Salvador Perez Arroyo still exudes his enthusiasm and desire to create the typical timeless works.

The architect of timeless symbols

It is hard to tell Salvador’s life story in several pages. One thing is certain, that over 40 years of practice, he has published dozens of books and hundreds of essays on modern and postmodern architecture. He has also created hundreds of masterpieces recognized and praised by the whole World as symbols of different cities such as Moncloa Tower in Madrid, Science Museum of Castilla La Mancha in Cuenca, La Eria Cultural Palace in Oviedo and many others.

With his contributions, Salvador has been honoured with 50 major awards conferred by the World’s most prestigious architectural organizations such as the European Union’s Urban Design First Prize, the American Council’s Design First Prize in 2010, the Europa Nostra Award for the Renovation of the 15th Century Palladio Church in Italy in 2014 and the European Architectural and Planning Council’s Excellent Scheme Award for the Madrid Planning Scheme. Most recently, his talent has been continued to be appreciated through the inclusion of his project titled Centro Eventi Multifunzionale in the Top 5 Buildings of the Year.

Ambition to create symbols in Vietnam

In 2009, Salvador was invited by the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam to visit Vietnam as a member of the International Judge Council to select the scheme for Thang Long Theater project. There, he met and exchanged ideas with two young and enthusiastic entrepreneurs, Nguyen Hai Yen and Nguyen Ngoc My. It was such an event that kept him in the S-shaped strip of land and led to the foundation of S-Design, a promising architectural firm,  in 2011.

Together, Salvador and S-Design have introduced and launched a series of representative works in various provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, An Giang and so on. Among them, Quang Ninh Museum - Library was honoured as the “Typical Work of the Year” by the Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association (VUPDA) in 2014 for its unique and creative design, inspired from “Coal” – the symbol of the mine land. In addition, some other typical works of Salvador and S-Design in Vietnam such as the Quang Ninh planning, fair and exhibition palace; Diamond Tower (Marriott Courtyard Danang) and Luxury Apartment Danang are worth mentioning.

Another project conducted by Salvador and his team from S-Design has attracted special attention from the market despite its recent official launch - Golden City project in Long Xuyen city, An Giang province.

This project’s idea came from Salvador’s visit to this land according to the invitation of the Alphanam Group a few years ago. Although Long Xuyen is on the rise, the difference is something yet to be found here.

Therefore, after returning home, Salvador and his S-Design team immediately began researching the local land, people and life and then created the design of the Golden City project, An Giang. This project has been highly appreciated by many well-known investors, experts and organizations throughout the country for its overall planning with more than 50% of the planning area devoted to the sustainable “green” facilities, including the system of the central park, secondary park and small parks.

Wisely choosing the two main product types for the project, namely shop-houses and villas, combining comprehensive and sustainable solutions that bring about the harmony of both living and trading functions, Salvador has created the most modern urban complex in not solely An Giang but also the coastal areas of the Mekong Delta.

It is true that over-70-year-old Salvador is a special person for his creation of the timeless values, his persistent passion for architectural creativity and his uninterrupted exploration of the values of life.

This is most fortunate, as it will become both obsession and motivation for Salvador to further realize the ambitious projects cherished by him and his S-Design team, to be executed in his beloved S-shaped land.
